What Are Full-Mouth Dental Implants? (Complete Set of Dental Implants)

Dental implants are one of the most frequently used methods in recent years for replacing missing teeth. This method, also known as dental implantation, can be presented as an advanced alternative to the bridge and denture treatments that were far more widely used until recently.

Dental Implants for the Full Mouth (Full-Mouth Restorations)

When you lose all or most of your teeth, the treatment you need is full-mouth dental implant surgery. When the implants are placed in the jaws and bridges or permanent prostheses are fixed on top of them, the implants act like tooth roots.

What Is Full-Mouth Dental Implant Treatment?

People can lose teeth in the mouth for different reasons. As tooth loss increases, edentulism occurs. The treatment carried out for extensive tooth loss is called full-mouth dental implantation. Full-mouth implant treatment is planned with 6 to 8 implants in the lower and upper jaws.

The number of implants placed per jaw also helps determine the type of prosthesis. In general, when we use 2 or 4 implants, we fit a removable prosthesis. When we use five or more implants, we fit a fixed prosthesis on the implants. However, a fixed prosthesis can also be made on 4 dental implants instead of 5. This treatment, in which 4 implants are used for a fixed prosthesis, is called the All-on-4 technique.

Who Can Have Implant Treatment for Total Edentulism?

A correct diagnosis is very important. In this respect, our specialist doctors first determine the current situation with an X-ray and an initial examination. Our patients are then informed about their condition and the most suitable treatments. Full-mouth implant treatment is applied to any adult who has no teeth in the mouth.

Advantages of Implant Treatment in Total Edentulism

In cases of total edentulism, a fixed or removable prosthesis is fitted onto the implants. These implant-supported prostheses bring our patients psychological support and self-confidence, as well as ease of use.

  • It is carried out more easily and quickly than other implant treatments.
  • In complete edentulism, healing is faster after implant treatment.
  • Problems are resolved more easily and quickly.
  • The prostheses are aesthetically more beautiful and natural.
  • Our patients get the appearance of real teeth.

What to Do If There Are No Teeth at All in the Mouth?

If there are no teeth in the mouth, dental implant treatment is applied. However, this does not mean one implant for every tooth. Although this is possible, it is not healthy. This is because the small amount of bone between two implants negatively affects the health and lifespan of the implant.

What Can a Patient With No Teeth in the Mouth Eat After Dental Implants Are Placed?

Particular care must be taken after the operation. Once the implants are placed, the diet must change until the fixed prosthesis is fitted on the implants. In this respect, the following foods can be eaten: fruit purée, soft foods, bananas and peaches, courgette purée, yoghurt with fruit purée, and vegetable soups that are not hot.

What Should Be Considered Before Dental Implants Are Placed?

The quality of the bone is also one of the factors that influence the success of the implant. In addition, before treatment and for as long as the implant remains in the mouth, the gums must be perfectly healthy.

One of the most important factors in implant treatment, and one that affects its success, is the bone structure. The person must have bone tissue suitable for the implant. The bone volume must be determined and implant planning must be carried out afterwards. A clinical and radiological examination must be carried out before the implant is placed.

If the bone structure and the person's general state of health are suitable for implant placement, there is no upper age limit. Health is a much more important factor than age.

Smoking can increase the risk of infection, particularly in the early stages of healing. Smoking is not recommended for this reason.

The lifespan of implants depends on many factors. Implants can be used for a lifetime by maintaining general oral care and protecting one's health. For the lifespan of the implant, it is necessary to brush your teeth properly twice a day, and dental floss and mouthwash must be used regularly.

The experience of the doctor who will place the implant is very important. Make sure that the dentist is trained and experienced in their field.

If you decide on dental implants, you should research the subject well and choose the right doctor with experience in this procedure.

Can Temporary Teeth Be Made When Implants Are Placed for the Whole Mouth?

Temporary teeth can be made during the period between the start and the end of the treatment for placing full-mouth implants. However, at the end of your implant surgery treatment, you may be asked not to use this temporary prosthesis during the week in which the impressions are taken. In addition, you can use your temporary denture for three months for eating and for appearance.

A fixed temporary prosthesis can be made for the lower and upper jaw when the bone condition is suitable, whereas fixed temporary teeth are not suitable for our patients with bone loss (especially if additional procedures such as a sinus lift have been carried out). In such cases, we provide a removable temporary prosthesis instead of a fixed temporary prosthesis.

However, remember that this situation is temporary and necessary for your implants to heal properly.

How Long Does It Take to Place Full-Mouth Dental Implants?

The treatment and the treatment time for each person are different. The number of implants that can be placed for our patient is determined only by a clinical examination. In general, the width of the jaw, the way the upper and lower jaws close together and, most importantly, the bone volume can determine the length of the procedure. If you would like information on the number of implants you need, you can come for an examination by booking an appointment. You can apply through the contact page to save time and get an opinion for your lifelong implant treatment.

Implants Can Be Placed at Any Age!

As we get older, tooth loss increases because of causes such as decay and gum problems. Because increased tooth loss makes it difficult to eat and drink, it has an extremely negative effect on the quality of life of older people. Nutritional problems, with or without chronic illness, also cause various other health problems.

The implant is an artificial tooth root created with a titanium screw inserted into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. The artificial tooth made on the screw connected to the jawbone becomes quite solid and permanent.

Which Brands and Materials Do We Use for Dental Implants?

Dental Clinic Turkey prefers companies that have been accepted and certified by international dental organisations such as the internationally respected FDI.

Foremost among the brands we use are Osstem dental implants, Straumann group dental implants and Nobel implants. We also prefer Nobel products for all our bone graft and sinus lift procedures.
