The Emax crown is a dental restoration made from a special ceramic, used to give a natural, realistic smile. It has a solid structure and contains no metal.
It is preferred mainly for its appearance and aesthetics. However, it is also used for patients with misshapen or broken teeth. It is not suitable for every tooth. Patients who wish to have a full ceramic crown are first examined and their suitability is assessed.
On which teeth can E-Max crowns be placed?
Glass-ceramic teeth have high light transmission. They therefore give patients a natural look in the mouth. They are preferred more often, particularly for the front incisors. The types of teeth to which this treatment can be applied are as follows:
- Several restored teeth that need to be corrected aesthetically.
- Problems with the protective layer of the tooth: deformity, absence or enamel defects.
- Teeth that have lost their appearance through wear known as abrasion, erosion or attrition.
- Restoring malformed teeth.
- Poorly positioned teeth.
- Teeth with discolouration due to age, devitalisation, fluorosis or tetracycline.
- Teeth broken as a result of trauma or tooth decay.
- Crooked teeth.
- Yellowed teeth.
In addition, premolars that do not bear much force are also among the areas of application.
What are the advantages of the E-Max crown?
The method, also known as the Empress dental crown, is often chosen because it offers an aesthetic appearance. The other advantages of the treatment are as follows:
- There is no purplish colour at the edges of the treated teeth or on the gums.
- It has high light transmission.
- It does not damage the tooth structure.
- It provides a slippery, smooth tooth surface.
- It reduces tooth sensitivity to a minimum.
- It offers a choice of shades.
- It largely prevents the formation of tartar.
- It is made of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic. It therefore has a durable structure.
- It absorbs very little fluid.
Moreover, ceramic teeth give a natural tooth appearance. They fill the gaps in the tooth.
How is the E-Max crown applied?
Empress is made with a CAD-CAM milling system. In its production, a high-quality monolithic block of lithium disilicate is used.
In general terms, the thin layer on the natural tooth structure is first removed during the procedure carried out by specialist dentists. Then, using conventional or digital systems, the dental model is created. The full ceramic crown is produced separately for each patient. While the prosthesis is made to suit the patient, the monolithic block of lithium disilicate is cut using a milling machine. The crown is therefore made from a single block. Once the crown has been made to the right size for the patient, it is sent to the dentist. During the appointment, the ceramic tooth is fitted onto the natural tooth.
The number of appointments may vary depending on the patient's case. After treatment, the dentist explains the care to follow.
